Human Rights Campaign Foundation 2009 Corporate Equality Index. In September 2008, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation named Dickstein Shapiro among the best places to work in the United States for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) professionals. The Firm received a Corporate Equality Index rating of 100 percent.

Chambers USA Award for Excellence. In June 2008, Dickstein Shapiro’s Insurance Coverage Practice was awarded the prestigious Chambers USA Award for Excellence in the Insurance Coverage: Policy Holder category. This award annually recognizes one law firm for its exemplary achievements in the practice area throughout the previous year.

Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business. In the 2008 edition of Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, Dickstein Shapiro was ranked as a leader in the Antitrust, Bankruptcy/Restructuring, Corporate/M&A & Private Equity, Energy: Electricity, Government: Government Relations, Insurance: Policyholder and Dispute Resolution, Litigation, and Securities Regulation practice areas. DC Bar Pro Bono Program’s Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year. In June 2008, Dickstein Shapiro was named the Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year in the large law firm category by the DC Bar Pro Bono Program. The award honors one firm each year for its pro bono program, and this year, Dickstein Shapiro’s Washington, DC office was recognized for its considerable commitment of legal assistance, time, and money to local individuals and organizations in need.

DuPont’s 2007 Challenge Award. In June 2008, Dickstein Shapiro was one of a limited number of law firms to be selected to receive DuPont’s 2007 Challenge Award, a recognition given to primary law firms and service providers that provide DuPont with “extraordinary contributions and accomplishments that have advanced the objectives of the DuPont legal model.” DuPont began the Challenge Awards in 1996, citing firms and providers who, among other things, brought innovation to the legal work provided to DuPont, incorporated technology into the practice of law, and assisted DuPont with its key initiatives, including diversity.

Washington Business Journal Best Places to Work in Greater Washington. In May 2008, Dickstein Shapiro was recognized as one of Washington DC’s “Best Places to Work” by the Washington Business Journal, marking the third year that the Firm received this recognition. Dickstein Shapiro was chosen from hundreds of metro-area nominees based on its collaborative atmosphere, positive work environment, and outstanding benefits. The list is compiled from surveys of hundreds of companies, employees, and recruiters about benefits, professional development, turnover rates, and diversity, among other categories.

Intellectual Property Law & Business Top 50 Under 45. In May 2008, Brian Siff was named as one of the Top 50 Under 45 in IP Law and Business. According to the publication, the winners “are distinguished by their sheer brainpower, legal smarts, creativity, and hard work.”

Legal Times Leading Lawyers. In April 2008, Chuck Ossola was recognized as a Leading Lawyer by the Legal Times. This prestigious list includes the 10 best copyright and trademark attorneys in Washington, DC.

Multicultural Law Magazine’s Top 100 Law Firms for Diversity. In the 2008 edition of MultiCultural Law magazine, Dickstein Shapiro was named a “Top 100 Law Firm for Diversity” as well as a “Top 100 Law Firm for Women” and a “Top 50 Law Firm for Associates.”

Legal Times “Influence 50.” In March 2008, Dickstein Shapiro was listed on the Legal Times “Influence 50” survey, which ranks lobbying shops and law firms with the highest revenues from lobbying in 2007.

Washington DC Super Lawyers. In March 2008, 11 attorneys from Dickstein Shapiro’s Washington, DC office were named Washington DC Super Lawyers. Recognized attorneys include: Kenneth Adams (Antitrust Litigation), Larry Eisenstat (Energy & Natural Resources), Robert Higgins (Business Litigation), Gary Hoffman (Intellectual Property), Leon Kellner (Insurance Coverage), Barry Levine (Criminal Defense: White Collar), Jerold Oshinsky (Insurance Coverage), Mark Perlis (Energy & Natural Resources), Frank Razzano (Securities Litigation), Howard Schiffman (Securities Litigation), and Kenneth Simon (Energy & Natural Resources).

Southern California Super Lawyers. In February 2008, Southern California Super Lawyers recognized Cassandra Franklin, Linda Kornfeld, and Kirk Pasich in the area of Insurance Coverage, and James Turken in the area of Business Litigation. Also, Chanda Hinman was named as a “Rising Star” in the same publication.

Washingtonian’s 800 Top Lawyers. The December issue of Washingtonian magazine listed 800 Top Lawyers, whom the publication calls “Washington’s best—the top one percent.” Eight Dickstein Shapiro attorneys representing seven practice areas were recognized. The attorneys listed include Kenneth Adams, Paul Bran, G. Michael Green, Barry Wm. Levine, Daniel Litt, Amy Nice, Howard Schiffman, and Scott Thomas.

Washingtonian’s Legends of the Bar. In the December issue of Washingtonian magazine, Sidney Dickstein and Seymour Glanzer were pictured as “Legends of the Bar,” a group of 20 of “Washington’s great firm builders, prosecutors, defenders, litigators, advocates and jurists, all born before President Franklin Roosevelt began his second term.”

Black Enterprise Magazine’s “Hot List.” DeAnna Allen was named to Black Enterprise magazine’s “Hot List,” a “biennial register of professional and entrepreneurial powerhouses under the age of 40 who shape our world,” in the publication’s December 2007 issue.

Profiles in Diversity Journal 2007 Women Worth Watching issue. In October 2007, Deborah Kelly was featured in Profiles in Diversity Journal’s annual “Women Worth Watching” issue. The issue recognized an elite group of women leaders from many industries who represent diversity within their spheres of influence, and who are determined and compassionate mentors. Ms. Kelly was one of only two attorneys featured.

Legal Times Leading Lawyers. Jerold Oshinsky, partner and head of Dickstein Shapiro’s Insurance Coverage Practice, was named as the leading lawyer in insurance for the District of Columbia by the Legal Times in October 2007. Mr. Oshinsky was chosen from among 10 finalists based on independent research and nominations from peers, clients, and other members of the legal industry.

Washingtonian Magazine Great Places to Work. Washingtonian magazine recognized Dickstein Shapiro in October 2007 as a “Great Place to Work.” The Firm was chosen from more than 225 nominees for its interesting work, good pay and benefits, collegial staff, employee development programs, and flexibility. Significantly, the Firm has been endorsed as a “Great Place to Work” in each biennial edition of the list since its first publication in 1999.

In September 2007, Dickstein Shapiro partners Robin Cohen, Jerold Oshinsky, Kirk Pasich, and Howard Schiffman were named in Lawdragon’s prestigious “500 Leading Lawyers in America” guide. Working Mother magazine and Flex-Time Lawyers LLC recognized Dickstein Shapiro in August 2007 as one of the “Best Law Firms for Women.” This prestigious list honors 50 firms that have a demonstrated commitment to the retention and advancement of women in the legal industry.

The American Lawyer’s 2007 Midlevel Associate Satisfaction Survey. In The American Lawyer’s “Associates Survey,” released in August 2007, Dickstein Shapiro was ranked the number one firm overall, as well as the number one firm in both Washington, DC and New York City. This annual survey is based on 12 areas of job satisfaction, and midlevel associates nationwide are surveyed on topics such as relations with partners, the interest and satisfaction of the work, training and guidance, and the openness of management. In 2006, the Firm was ranked third overall.

Business Insurance Magazine’s “Women to Watch.” In July 2007, Linda Kornfeld was profiled as one of Business Insurance magazine’s 50 “Women to Watch.” The list highlights the importance of women in the industry, and identifies women executives and innovators at a variety of organizations serving the buyers of commercial insurance, reinsurance, and employee benefits.

In June 2007, Emanuel Faust was named one of Lawdragon’s “500 Leading Dealmakers.” Attorneys on this list were selected by the votes of their peers, clients and reporters, and the magazine notes the list “honors the biggest dealmakers at private firms throughout the country.”

National Law Journal’s 50 Most Influential Women Lawyers in America. In May 2007, Robin Cohen, Managing Partner of Dickstein Shapiro’s New York office, was named one of the “50 Most Influential Women Lawyers in America.” This prestigious list recognizes female attorneys who have had a national impact in their field and exhibit a demonstrated power to change the legal landscape.

Chambers Global Guide. Dickstein Shapiro was profiled in the 2007 Chambers Global: The World’s Leading Lawyers for Business in the Energy: Electricity category. Partners Larry Eisenstat and Mark Perlis were listed as leading attorneys in the guide’s Energy category.

The American Lawyer’s Summer Associates Survey. In The American Lawyer’s Summer Associates Survey, released in November 2006, Dickstein Shapiro was ranked the number six law firm nationally (out of 172 firms), the number two firm in Washington, DC, and the number eleven firm in New York City. The American Lawyer credited Dickstein Shapiro’s high ranking on the Summer Associates Survey to the Firm’s midlevel associate satisfaction. The survey ranks firms on nine areas of job satisfaction, including the difficulty and interest level of the work, the amount of interaction with partners, and the overall impressions of the firm.

Women’s Bar Association “Star of the Bar.” Chairman Michael Nannes was named a Women’s Bar Association “Star of the Bar” in September 2006. The “Star of the Bar” award recognizes members of the Washington, DC legal community who have made a difference in the professional lives of women attorneys by encouraging their advancement and retention.

Who Represents Corporate America. For the past several years, most recently in 2006, the Firm has been recognized in the Corporate Counsel and National Law Journal “Who Represents Corporate America” surveys for its representation of several Fortune 250 companies, including Constellation Energy Group, Inc., Duke Energy Corporation, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, and Tyson Foods, Inc.

The American Lawyer’s “A-List.” Dickstein Shapiro was ranked the number 10 law firm in the country by The American Lawyer in its 2006 “A-List,” which also ranked the Firm as the top DC-based law firm. The American Lawyer cited the Firm’s high-profile case wins, commitment to diversity and pro bono initiatives, and happy associates (Dickstein Shapiro had the highest associate satisfaction score nationwide) as the impetus behind Dickstein Shapiro’s prominent placement on the “A-List.”

Washington SmartCEO’s Greater Washington Legal Elite. In 2006, Andrew Sherman was honored as part of the “Greater Washington Legal Elite,” which recognizes the top legal talent in the District of Columbia.

Minority Corporate Counsel Association’s Thomas L. Sager Award. In June 2006, Dickstein Shapiro was presented with the Minority Corporate Counsel Association’s (MCCA) Thomas L. Sager Award for the Mid-Atlantic region, based on its significant accomplishments in and solid commitment to diversity. The MCCA honored Dickstein Shapiro as the top law firm in the Mid-Atlantic Region alongside three global corporations at its regional awards ceremony, and said the Firm “is a living commitment to diversity in a way that all of us can learn from.” Dickstein Shapiro’s top-notch legal service combined with its philosophy to embrace diversity secured the Firm’s place as one of the five most highly regarded law firms in the country.

The Washington Lawyers’ Committee Vincent E. Reed Award. In June 2006, Dickstein Shapiro was presented with the Vincent E. Reed Award by The Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs for its ongoing work with the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. The award recognized the Firm’s pro bono services and its commitment to public education.

Lawdragon New Stars, New Worlds. In April 2006, Kenneth Adams, Robin Cohen, Larry Eisenstat, Deborah Kelly, James Kelly, and Linda Kornfeld were selected for Lawdragon’s “New Stars, New Worlds” list, which profiles the “freshest faces in American law.”

BTI Power Rankings. Dickstein Shapiro was included in several lists in the BTI Power Rankings: The BTI Client Relationship Scorecard for Law Firms. This scorecard measures client relationships of U.S. law firms with the Fortune 1000. The Firm was recognized for its representation of companies within the Fortune 500 and Fortune 1000, as a firm that is recommended by clients and peers, and as a firm that is recommended by utilities companies.
