Mr. Higgins is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and is Chief of Litigation and co-leader of the Securities – Litigation, Regulatory, and Compliance – Practice at Dickstein Shapiro, which he joined in 1973, after serving as a U.S. District Court law clerk and an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. His nationwide practice focuses on securities, insurance, and general business litigation. With more than 35 years of experience, Mr. Higgins has tried more than 100 jury trials. In 2006, he successfully represented the independent directors of the Federated Investors Mutual Fund complex in connection with a large number of cases that were consolidated in Maryland and Pennsylvania and involved alleged late trading, market timing, and excessive advisory fees. He also represents AT&T in a nationwide class action pending in the Southern District of Indiana (Hinshaw v. AT&T, No. IP98-1300-C H/K), and is handling various other litigations for Fortune 500 companies. He also currently represents Merrill Lynch in several cases including hundreds of complaints filed by clean-up workers claiming to have suffered respiratory injuries caused by breathing the air in buildings leased by Merrill Lynch and damaged by the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001.
